ACCESS IN ACTION

TRAINING

Bring Access in Action to Your Site

Access in Action is N.A.M.E.’s signature professional learning experience for nonprofit, community-based, and out-of-school-time (OST) organizations serving children and families in Baltimore and across the DMV.

This training exists because inclusion cannot rely on individual effort alone. Too often, staff are deeply committed to doing right by children with disabilities and their families, yet are left without the systems, shared language, or structural support needed to make access consistent and sustainable. Access in Action was designed to close that gap.

Grounded in IDEA, ADA, and Section 504, and aligned with Maryland guidance, this training translates complex law, policy, and research into plain language and practical action. The focus is not on compliance for compliance’s sake, but on building systems that work day to day, staff member to staff member, family to family.

At its core, Access in Action is about moving organizations from intention to infrastructure.

In-Person Training for Organizations

For organizations that want a facilitated, hands-on experience, Access in Action is available as an in-person training for nonprofits and OST programs in Baltimore City and throughout the DMV.

This option is designed for teams who want space to think together, ask hard questions, and begin aligning their practices in real time. In-person sessions allow for direct coaching, scenario-based discussion, and collective problem-solving rooted in your organization’s actual context and not hypothetical examples.

In-person Access in Action is particularly effective for organizations navigating staff turnover, program expansion, enrollment challenges, or increased family needs related to disability and access. The training creates a shared foundation across roles and supports teams in beginning the work of building systems that can hold responsibility beyond a single training day.

Organizations leave with greater clarity, shared expectations, and a starting point for an Inclusion Action Plan tailored to their program.

Access in Action is also available as a self-paced online course, designed for organizations that need flexibility without sacrificing depth.

The online training allows staff and families to engage with the content on their own schedules while maintaining consistency across sites, teams, and roles. Lessons are structured, research-informed, and intentionally written in plain language, making the course accessible to a wide range of learners.

The online option is well-suited for onboarding new staff, training part-time teams, or supporting organizations with multiple locations. Participants engage with real-world examples, reflection prompts, and practical tools, and complete the course with a clearer understanding of inclusive systems and their role within them.

Completion includes access to templates and planning tools that can be revisited over time.
